The Blue Alliance is a non-profit organization that partners with governments to establish and manage Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). Our mission is to restore coral reef ecosystems while supporting sustainable economic development for local communities. By bridging the marine conservation financing gap, we foster innovative Blue Economy businesses that contribute to reef conservation.
In collaboration with the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, we work to ensure environmental conservation, regulatory compliance, and the promotion of a sustainable marinebased economy.
We are seeking a Finance & Administration Officer and a Senior Accountant to oversee financial management, reporting, compliance, and administrative operations. These roles are crucial for maintaining the organization’s financial health and ensuring smooth office operations.
Senior Accountant
Key Responsibilities May Include:
- Financial Record-Keeping:
- Recording daily transactions in the general ledger.
- Reconciling bank statements and accounts receivable/payable balances.
- Maintaining accurate and organized financial records.
- Supporting head office team on monthly verifications and close, Financial Reporting:
- Review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement) to confirm its accuracy.
- Analyzing financial data to identify trends and potential issues.
- Creating reports and presentations to communicate financial performance to management.
iii. Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Developing and managing budgets for different departments.
- Forecasting future financial requirements for funding requests from the head office
- Statutory Compliance:
- Preparing and filing statutory obligations (TRA, ZRA, ZSSF).
- Staying updated on mandatory statutory taxes, levies, and other contribution laws and regulations.
- Internal Controls:
- Implementing and monitoring internal controls to safeguard assets.
- Implementing mitigation strategies to minimize exposure to fraud and errors
- Auditing and Compliance:
- Assisting with internal and internal reviews and external audits by providing documentation and explanations.
- Ensuring adherence to accounting standards (IPSAS, IFRS).
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting / finance or related field.
- Professional qualification will be an added advantage,
- Minimum of 5 years of finance and accounting experience, including finance, accounting, audit,
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, SAP).
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with different departments.
- Experience in working with and knowledge of Zanzibar tax laws and regulations will be an added advantage.
